CES: Hyundai’s thief-thwarting Blue Link system

Hyundai owners will soon have access to eco-coaches to help with efficient driving, up-to-date maintenance reminders and local restaurant ratings -– all built into their vehicles through the new Blue Link telematics platform revealed at CES.
The automaker introduced the Blue Link system’s 30-plus features at the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas on Wednesday. Blue Link will be able to lock and unlock the vehicle’s doors remotely, send a text if a driver (read: teenager) takes the car out of pre-set boundaries or time periods, even cause it to slow down or immobilize after it’s been stolen so that police can catch up.
There’s voice-recognition capabilities along with features that allow drivers to share the location of their vehicle with friends on Facebook. If Hyundai ever issues a recall, the car will know.
Blue Link will also have also emergency assistance features and diagnostic service and repair notifications -- which Hyundai said would result in drivers being 40% more likely to bring the car to a dealership for service and 70% more likely to come in for a repair.
The system will first appear in Sonata sedans this spring before reaching most Hyundai vehicles by the 2013 model year. Blue Link pricing will be announced later.
