One major tech trend this holiday season is the 7-inch tablet at about $200 -- namely the Amazon Kindle Fire, the Barnes & Noble Nook Color and Nook Tablet, the Kobo Vox and the T-Mobile SpringBoard.

And for at least one day, the BlackBerry PlayBook with 16 gigabytes of storage will be selling for a low price of $199 at Staples. That one day will be Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and the traditional start of the holiday shopping season.

Unlike the Fire, Nook Tablet, Vox and SpringBoard, the PlayBook isn’t quite a new device.

Research in Motion launched the PlayBook in April, but sales have been slow. The tablet has a thin selection of apps available, and it lacks a native email app or even BlackBerry Messenger capabilities.

The PlayBook also launched at a base price of $499 -- same as the Apple iPad. Later on RIM dropped the PlayBook to $300, but that hasn’t helped snag much consumer attention so far.

Staples’ promotion might help jump-start interest a bit, but the field is much more competitive in the low-price tablet range, and Amazon and Barnes & Noble offer a lot more content to consume on their devices than RIM does.

So, at $200 are you planning on picking up a PlayBook? Or are your eyes focused toward Fires, Nooks, iPads or no tablets at all? Sound off in the comments.
