Shurnell West, 25, a black man, was shot in the torso in the 3800 block of North Broadway and died a day later, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14.

West was riding in a car with some friends when a van pulled up alongside. A sliding door opened and a suspect fired, striking West. Friends took him to County-USC Hospital, where he died. LAPD Hollenbeck detectives are close to clearing this case: A Latino man has been arrested.
