Lloyd Stallings III, 22, a black young man, was shot in the torso at 1317 W. 97th St. in Athens, and died at 8:16 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29.

He was from a little town in Mississippi. He had been visiting in Los Angeles for only two months, with dreams of being a rap music star. He was shot in front of the apartment building where he had been staying with his uncle, then stumbled back upstairs, trying to get home. He died in the doorway of the apartment, a bare room, except for a couple of couches. It was also home to at least two friends--they called themselves cousins. ‘Everybody loved him. He wasn’t into no gang,’ said one.
