Michel Dumitriu, a 50-year-old white man, was fatally stabbed during a brawl outside a bar in the 100 block of Rose Avenue in Venice at about 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division responded to a radio call of assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, officers discovered the Dumitriu lying on the sidewalk. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Shortly after, officers were dispatched to Santa Monica hospital to investigate a patient with stab wounds. Authorities said that the detectives concluded that the patient was linked to the stabbing incident. Police later arrested Daniel Chavez, 32, a Latino man, on suspicion of murder. Chavez remains in custody at the hospital, police added.
