Steven Smith, 39, a black man, was shot in the head at about 1:20 a.m. in the 700 block of West 43rd Street in South-Central L.A. on Wednesday, March 5. Residents in the area were awakened by mulitple gunshots. Smith, mortally wounded, was discovered on the sidewalk. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died the next day at 3:10 p.m. The motive for the shooting is unknown, said Det. Robert Lait of LAPD’s South Bureau.
