Ronda Miles, a 50-year-old black woman, was found beaten to death in an unoccupied house at 1002 S. White Avenue in Compton at about 2:05 p.m. Sunday, June 1.

According to Sgt. Randy Seymore of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau, an anonymous caller said there was a body inside the house. Deputies responded to the house and found Miles in one of the three bedrooms.

Information obtained during the investigation led to the arrest of Lamont Bluitt , a 30-year-old black man, for the alleged murder of Miles. Seymore said Bluitt, a recent parolee, knew Miles. The relationship was not ‘boyfriend or girlfriend,’ he said.

An alley between South White Avenue and South Washington Avenue divides the house from a parking lot of shopping center. A neighbor said the house had been abandoned for some time. The fence surrounding the house had been pried open near the home’s attached garage, where a blue shopping cart was left.

A Maybeline ‘Volum’ express mascara was on the ground by the cart’s wheel. A few feet away, two small candles were placed, apparently as a memorial to Miles.

Seymore said Miles had family in the area.

Update: Authorities identified the woman as Ronda Miles, 50, a black woman. In addition, Lamont Bluitt, 30, a black man, has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Miles.
