Demetrio Sosa, 61, a Latino man, was killed Wednesday, Sept. 3, when a car that was being pursued by police hit him. At 2:26 p.m., officers with the LAPD’s Northeast Division spotted a driver who appeared to be under the influence at Figueroa Street and 52nd Avenue in Highland Park and began following him without lights or sirens, said Officer Jason Lee, an LAPD spokesman. Officers followed the car onto the Pasadena and Golden State freeways and to the Lincoln Heights area, where the pursuit ended at Griffith Avenue and North Broadway. The driver, Robert Palacios, 41, hit a minivan before striking Sosa, who was walking down the street. The minivan’s occupants sustained minor injuries, Lee said. Palacios, a Latino man, was arrested on suspicion of murder.
