Much to the delight of his local fans, comic Dave Chappelle has been ubiquitous in Washington in recent weeks (he was born and raised in the area before hitting the big time with his Comedy Central show).

CNN reporter Ed Henry excitedly blogged about running into him outside the White House. The Washington Post’s gossip column reported that in Georgetown, Chappelle was seen skateboarding (one of his favorite pastimes) before taking in ‘The Simpsons Movie.’ But on one occasion, Chappelle caused nothing but confusion for a pair of the hordes of tourists who ignore the oppressive humidity and troop to the nation’s capital during the summer.

Reid Wilson of the RealClearPolitics blog last week spotted the celebrity in the bowels of the Longworth House Office Building on Capitol Hill. As related by Wilson, ‘One family of tourists walked by, eyed the throng and stepped into an elevator with a few staffers.... ‘Who was that?’ mother tourist inquired. ‘That was Barack Obama,’ said father tourist.’

The mind wanders to an image of Chappelle on a stage, debating as a presidential contender -- what a can’t-miss sketch that would make.
