Opinion: The other Thompson likes Rudy

Well, it certainly wasn’t a snap decision. Tommy Thompson, the former Wisconsin governor and Bush Cabinet member, dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination in August after being drubbed in the Ames straw poll in Iowa. You’ll remember that’s the one some of the major candidates didn’t show up for.

But the Rudy Giuliani campaign announced today that Thompson had lined up behind the former mayor of New York. Given the ways the polls were running before Thompson quit, that could mean a one-point uptick for Giuliani if all of Tommy Thompson’s supporters go with their man’s advice.

And, of course, we know that’s not likely.
