Opinion: Ticket pic of the week: Hillary Clinton sniffs a new opportunity

It is so very tempting to let this Ticket Photo of the Week stand as it is.

Our first thought when we saw this photo was, ‘Oh, yeah, where is she anyway?’ So united are recent American elections and the face and voice of Hillary Clinton.
Those with long experience with the Clinton politicians have come to suspect there are no coincidences in their lives, so attuned to politics, appearances and opportunities are they both.
According to that interpretation, the secretary of State knew well in advance from her....
...own experience, sources and/or her perpetually campaigning husband, that the midterm elections on Tuesday were destined to be a debacle for Democrats. Indeed, it was one of historic proportions with their party losing half a dozen Senate seats and at least 60 House seats, the most in more than a half-century. More even than the 52 that Bill Clinton lost in his first midterm election in 1994.
So, where would a savvy politician who can’t politick in her government job and might not want to be associated with a colossal Obama-led defeat most want to be on such a dubious day?
As far away as possible. That’s where.
So the former first lady popped up on a three-day visit to New Zealand, more than 9,000 miles from the White House.
There was no sniper or mortar fire to dodge. So she peacefully visited parliament there and exchanged a traditional Maori greeting with a member.
A little social nicetie we’d love to see Barack Obama, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, John Boehner and Mitch McConnell try at the start of thir upcoming politics summit Nov. 18 after the president returns from his own trip to Asia.
