Donald Trump took an unusual victory lap Wednesday after President Obama released his long-form birth certificate by praising himself.
‘I am so proud of myself because I’ve accomplished something that nobody else has been able to accomplish,’ the boisterous billionaire bellowed in Portsmouth, N.H., regarding a freshly earthed document that none of his team of sleuths in Hawaii have come forward to take credit for.
Trump stoically and single-handedly assumed responsibility for inspiring the president to release the more detailed document that so many ‘birthers,’ including the real estate mogul himself, said either didn’t exist or contained information that Obama didn’t want to see the light of day.
And yet he still questioned its validity.
‘I want to look at it, but I hope it’s true so we can get onto much more important matters, so the press can stop asking me questions. I am really honored, frankly, to have played such a big role in hopefully, hopefully, getting rid of this issue,’ Trump said. ‘We have to look at it, we have to see is it real, is it proper, what’s on it, but I hope it checks out beautifully. I am really proud; I am really honored.’
Honored that he was, Trump was able to move on to criticize the president in other ways, like demanding that Obama focus on Libya while working with the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries to stymie ever-rising gas and oil prices. ‘If you look at what he’s doing in Libya, which is a total disaster. Nobody even knows what’s going on in Libya. If you look at what’s happening with gasoline prices where he said he has no control over prices, which he does,’ Trump said.
He advised that Obama ‘gets on the phone or gets off his basketball court or whatever he is doing at the time’ and pressure OPEC to lower gas prices.
The award-winning actress and singer Cher had enough and took to Twitter to call The Donald names. One we can publish here: ‘pompous.’ The other is a body part that we cannot publish. The rest of her tweet related that she ‘saw him in Aspen with one Dcup chick after another. Everyone up there thought he was a complete idiot.’
One famous female congratulated Trump. Indeed, a certain hockey mom wanted the press to praise the developer for allowing the world to see the document so many had clamored for.
‘Media, admit it: Trump forced the issue,’ former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin tweeted. Palin then advised her followers to not be distracted by the new birth certificate, and instead focus on a news conference by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke.
Ignore President Obama’s birth certificate and focus on actual news? You betcha.
