What in the heck did Jim Hartigan get himself into? That was my initial reaction when I saw the most surprising score of the weekend: Sun Valley Village Christian beat JSerra, 42-0 in its first game in the Hartigan era. The coach won championships at Santa Margarita and at Clovis West and he may, given enough time, win one with JSerra -- but it won’t be anytime soon.

Consider this: JSerra, a private school in South Orange County -- and just think of all the possibilities that entails -- was held scoreless.

JSerra, which is expected to compete in the Trinity League against Mater Dei, Orange Lutheran and Servite -- not to mention reasonably nearby Santa Margarita -- allowed 42 points to a school that’s, like, Division XI.

OK, Village Christian went 9-3 last season, so it’s a good Mid-Valley Division program, but 42-0???
