After months of preparation, nothing can simulate game conditions like an actual game. That’s when decision-making skills are really tested. On that note, Wildomar Elsinore earns my vote for the loudest backfire of Week 0.

The Tigers were leading visiting Irvine, 19-7, late in the third quarter, when Coach Tony Peralta decided it was the right time to insert sophomore quarterback Mitchell Glasmann for the first snaps of his varsity career. On his third play, Glasmann’s pass was intercepted and Irvine quickly answered with a touchdown. The Vaqueros then won the game, 20-19, after scoring another touchdown with 1 minute 19 seconds remaining.

‘In the third quarter, I think everyone in the stadium thought it was over,’ Irvine Coach Terry Henigan told The Californian.

That might be an exaggeration, Terry, but at least one person on the Elsinore sideline was caught looking ahead.
