Cross-country, and Trabuco’s high hopes

Trabuco Hills opens the season as the top-ranked boys’ cross-country team in the state and among the best in the nation. You can read about the Mustangs’ expectations here. They are without their best runner from last season, T.J. Sullivan, who’s at Stanford.

It is so hard to repeat when that money guy is no longer around because he’s the one guy you can count on through thick and thin; however, cross-country isn’t about having one guy, it’s about having five or six. Champions aren’t made with the T.J. Sullivans because all quality programs have a guy like that. Champions are made with that fifth guy on the team who never gets interviewed.

Orange Lutheran, in Division IV, is also No. 1 in the Southern Section rankings.

On the girls’ side, Corona del Mar is ranked No. 1 in Division III, and Orange Lutheran No. 1 in Division IV.
