Supporters of Hesperia High are pretty excited this week after the Scorpions blew out visiting Apple Valley Granite Hills, 47-0, on Friday night. Some are starting to believe Hesperia can win its first Mojave River League title.

Hesperia will likely need a victory over Phelan Serrano on Nov. 2 to stake that claim. Serrano is coming off its own impressive win, a 33-6 rout of Etiwanda.

Hesperia was wise not to provide any bulletin-board material after its win over Granite Hills. Tight end Ricky Howard simply said, ‘I don’t know if it’s the year. I don’t like to jinx fate. I know that we’re willing to work for what we want.’

Or, as one poster replied, ‘Before we start raising banners here, let’s remember, this was Granite Hills.’’
