We’ll see if Long Beach Poly, in the doldrums so far tonight, can do better against Birmingham in the second half than it did in the first.

Coach Raul Lara warned his Jackrabbits, who are down, 12-0, at halftime, that they’d better.

Lara faced his team as the players knelt at the 50-yard line near the Jackrabbits’ sideline and gave them a hard look and some choice words before they headed into the locker room.

‘Make plays, make plays,’ he warned, ‘or you’re going to come out of here with a loss.’
