Finally arrived here at Glover Stadium in Anaheim for the Anaheim Servite vs. Corona Santiago showdown. I stepped out of the car and ran into my colleague Eric Sondheimer, who was headed into Subway for a drink. Is that guy everywhere or what?

I accompany him into Subway and who is inside eating? Bellflower St. John Bosco Coach Kiki Mendoza and a few of his staff. They can fill two notebooks tonight because the Braves play Servite and Santiago later this season.

USC Coach Pete Carroll is here, standing alongside a fence near the southern endzone on the Santiago side of the field. He’s obviously here to check out his two Servite recruits, offensive lineman Matt Kalil and all-purpose back D.J. Shoemate. I wonder if he got hit up for extra change as many times as I did outside?

Anyway, looks like a festive atmosphere just before kickoff. Servite’s Scottish band just marched in and both teams looked pumped.
