South Hills, the No. 25 team in our poll, lost to unranked Trabuco Hills, 13-6. Our editor said it best when he told me of the score, ‘Why did we vote for them?’

Yeah, good question. Well, I guess I can move Charter Oak into my top 25 ballot, right? Nope. They got shutout by Upland, 14-0.

Los Altos? Maybe. The Conquerors beat Rosemead, 35-0.

What about Chino Hills, the Daily Bulletin’s No. 1 team (ahead of Norco, our No. 14)? Negative as well. They lost to Diamond Ranch, 42-28. According to the Daily Bulletin’s Clay Fowler, what got Diamond Ranch ready for the game was a last-minute film session Friday evening with Coach Roddy Layton, who played a video of Mike Tyson’s greatest knockouts. The Panthers are now in my top 25 bubble.

Monrovia
started its season last week with a 28-0 win over Montclair, opening some eyes, but their performance Friday night, losing to Duarte, 42-21, closed them right back. The key to the game: turnonvers, according to the PSN. ‘We shot ourselves in the foot throughout the game,’ Monrovia Coach Steve Garrison told the PSN’s Ismael Reynoso.

And, even though No. 2 LB Poly is not from the SGV, their upset at the hands of Birmingham was the biggest of the week.

Week 1... it ain’t Week Zero, folks.
