The decision of UC Irvine baseball Coach Dave Serrano to accept the position of head coach at Cal State Fullerton has created uncertainty for Irvine recruits, none of whom are bigger than Servite shortstop/pitcher Chris Amezquita.

He committed to Irvine more than a year ago, but now he’s waiting to see if any of the Irvine coaches who recruited him will stick around.

‘There’s definitely some thinking on my part,’ Amezquita said Saturday night before Servite’s football game against Corona Santiago.

If Amezquita is no longer a firm Irvine commit, other schools are likely to take another shot at him because he’s considered a much better prospect than when he originally committed to Irvine.
