I’ve been talking about this game since last week and now it’s here, No. 1 St. Margaret’s vs. No. 2 Maranatha in a rematch of last year’s CIF-SS Northeast Division final, at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Margaret’s.

The PSN has a great story to preview the game by Scott Galetti. I’m sure the Minutemen want payback, but that wasn’t mentioned in the article.

What was mentioned though is the No. 1 vs. No. 2 CIF ranking and the comments from new Tartans coach Harry Welch, who last year guided Canyon Country Canyon to a Division-I state bowl title.

While Welch might be used to coaching on the Division I and II levels, he’s been impressed with what he’s seen so far in the Northeast Division (Division 13).

‘I didn’t expect the level of athleticism and coaching to be as strong as it is at this level,’ Welch said. ‘The biggest difference is that there’s not a consistency of size and speed.’

‘The effort and commitment is every bit as strong as Division I kids,’ he said.

Those comments came after St. Margaret’s beat unranked Mammoth, 35-6. I wonder what he will say after he faces the No. 2 team in that division?

It’s going to be a good game, probably the best D-13 game out there until the division final, when these two teams will likely face each other again.
