What’s gotten into Etiwanda?

The Eagles were ranked sixth in the Southern Section Inland Division preseason coaches’ poll, ahead of Lake Elsinore Temescal Canyon and Redlands East Valley, but suffered their second brow-beating loss in three games Thursday night, falling to Glendora, 31-13, at Ontario Colony.

In its season opener against Phelan Serrano two weeks ago, Etiwanda scored in the game’s closing minute to earn the only happy face sticker in a 33-6 loss.

Etiwanda receiver Marvin Jones, ranked 10th in the state regardless of position by rivals.com, had only two receptions for five yards at halftime of the Glendora game, when Etiwanda trailed, 17-6.

I realize the Eagles might be lacking in other offensive skill players, thus hindering Jones’ ability to get the ball how he wants it, but so was Redlands East Valley in its 21-20 upset victory last week against Riverside North. That didn’t stop USC-bound senior Chris Polk, a receiver by nature, from contributing in several ways.

Polk, by the way, is ranked No. 29 among California recruits.

Darren Collison should show these guys where their hearts are located.
