Don’t blame the new guy

I was wondering when the Kevin Prince injury would bite Crespi, but as it turns out, the QB situation didn’t have much to do with the Celts’ loss to Corona Centennial. Sure, QB Bryan Bennett probably wasn’t as effective as a healthy Prince would have been, but he played as well as could be expected of a sophomore QB making only his second start. He connected on two TD passes and helped the Celts keep the score close in the first half before Centennial jumped onto the Bass burners.

So don’t think Bennett starting at QB is going to be Crespi’s Achilles heel this season. The Celts have demonstrated that the Bennett-E.J. Woods-Joseph Fauria trio is capable of leading the offense.

Do I think they can beat Notre Dame for the Serra League title this year? No. But I do see them as one of the best teams in the region because the harmful effects of Prince’s injury have been offset by a group of talented players. Also, despite this outing, I still think the defense is pretty good. You’ve just got to hand it to Centennial for running circles around them.

But I wasn’t there. So, Dan, (or anybody else) just let me know if you see it differently.
