Jeff Brinkley made it through halftime this week. A week ago at halftime, the Newport Harbor coach left for the hospital with a rapid heartbeat, and he remained at Hoag Hospital for three days.

‘I feel good,’ he said after his team’s 34-7 loss to Long Beach Poly. ‘I tried to take it a little easier and not get too upset with things. The officials, there were a couple of things I was upset with, but for the most part, I felt pretty good.’

If Brinkley’s already upset at officials, then normalcy has returned. Everyone’s breathing a lot easier now that he’s back to continue his 22nd season of guiding the Sailors.
