My colleague, Orange County-based Martin Henderson, sent me an e-mail at 4:43 a.m., asking if it was OK to blog about Corona Centennial running back Ryan Bass, his early candidate for player of the year.

Since it’s 12:22 p.m. and he hasn’t responded to my three-hour-old reply, I’ll assume he was too excited to sleep after watching (yawn) Long Beach Poly throw down on Newport Harbor, 34-7.

I think we’ll see on Oct. 4 just how talented Bass and the Huskies are, when they play Mater Dei at Santa Ana Stadium. I’m not going to make any predictions at this point, but if the teams can stay healthy between now and then, it should be one of the more popular inter-county matchups in years.

And yes, Martin, you can blog about him.
