I don’t mean to brag or anything, but I went five for five on my ‘big time predictions’ last week and I figure I better gloat while I still have the chance. But enough of my yakkin’ -- here’s my picks on a couple important regional games going on tonight. By the way, I don’t look at Calpreps.com before I make my predictions.

Westlake
(1-1) vs. No. 7 Hart (2-0) at College of the Canyons, 7:30 p.m. -- Westlake was on the wrong end of the biggest regional shocker of Week 2, but a good performance against rival Hart could heal some of those wounds. I think it would be downright bizarre if the Warriors pulled this one off, but never count out RB Cooper Shockley and a Westlake offense that dug itself out of a 27-0 hole against Saugus. Of course, Hart’s got RB Delano Howell, QB B.R. Holbrook and a better defense.

My Prediction: Hart 38, Westlake 13
Calpreps.com projection: Hart 35, Westlake 14

Newbury Park (2-0) at Oak Park (2-0), 7:30 p.m. -- This is an important nonleague game for both teams which, at this point, need to prove they’re legitimate contenders for their respective league titles. Can QB Colby Cameron finally take off and help Newbury Park show it will be a Marmonte League title contender? Or will the bone-crushing Oak Park defense, led by LB Sean Westgate & Co., prove it can be a challenger to Oaks Christian‘s Tri-Valley League dominance? Actually, each team is talented on defense, but I’m going to stick with the one that has more experience because I think the Panthers could have done more in their victories over Rio Mesa and Camarillo.
