A couple days ago, I received an e-mail (I think Sondheimer got it, too) from some guy named “SoundByte4” that contained stats on Morro Bay QB Logan Budd. Well, I already knew Budd is the best snapper in the Los Padres League, but I didn’t realize how much of an all-around player this guy is for the Pirates.

Heading into their league opener against Santa Maria, Budd has passed for 475 yards and three TDs. But on the ground, he’s munched up 307 yards with three more TDs. He also has two interceptions playing defensive back and has kicked four field goals and 10 extra points.

‘He’s such a double-threat for us,’ Morro Bay Coach John Andree said, ‘and he’s a phenomenal athlete.’

So I guess it wouldn’t be a stretch to say Morro Bay can give their best ‘Budd’ at least some of the credit for jumping out to a 3-0 start this season. Also, having a couple of guys around like RB Duran Gonzalez and WR Ryan Lugo hasn’t hurt, either.

But will Budd be enough to carry the Pirates past defending champs St. Joseph for the league title?

And no, I didn’t make the long trip to farm country to get this video of Budd picking and kicking apart the Wasco defense. E-mail agent ‘SoundByte4’ sent it to me.
