Long Beach Poly, still working to get its offense up to speed, could be slowed by injuries in its Moore League opener against Lakewood on Friday night at Veterans Stadium.

Junior quarterback Morgan Fennell has been bothered by back spasms all week and sat out of practices Monday and Tuesday. His status may be a game-time decision, Coach Raul Lara said.

Senior receiver Randall Cox is expected to step in behind center if Fennell can’t play, but Lara said, ‘Morgan is my guy. I really like this kid. If he can play, he’ll play. We’ll have to see.’

The Jackrabbits also are hurting on the offensive line, where senior tackles Marcus Falanai and Daveon Akinsanya have been hampered by wrist and ankle injuries, respectively, and Albert Parrish has a sprained thumb.
