Every game is a tough one for Urbina

I ran into some parking difficulties when I arrived at Canyon High School this evening, but it was my own fault for arriving only an hour before game time. After all, tonight’s game between Canyon and No. 5 Crespi is one of the must-see prep events of the fall. And one guy who unfortunately will have to see it from the sidelines is Canyon’s Mark Urbina.

The talented senior WR for Canyon (pictured right in last season’s state Division I bowl championship game) broke his leg two weeks ago against Lancaster and is more than a little bummed he can’t play. ‘It’s definitely tough for me to sit back and watch,’ said Urbina, while on crutches. ‘Right now I’m just here to support my team.’

Urbina sees a lot of potential for this crop of Cowboys, but knows there’s a few things they’ve got to fix before Foothill League play begins next week. ‘We need to cut down the mistakes and just play better,’ he said.

Well, if the Cowboys want to make a statement, now is the time. A victory tonight over Crespi would put them back on the prep football radar map (maybe into The Times’ rankings too) and make them more than just the best one-win team in the state.

Kickoff is less than five minutes away here at Harry Welch Stadium, so stay glued to your computer screen for the latest updates from the game.
