Michael Kramer, who has compiled game statistics for Mater Dei for the past 12 years and USC’s home games for the past 21, doublechecked the video from Thursday’s track meet between Mater Dei and Centennial -- a 51-37 Mater Dei victory -- to arrive at some definitive record-breaking numbers for the football shootout.

The teams combined for 1,303 yards, three more than previously reported. It broke the California state record of 1,281 previously held by Los Banos (728) and Manteca (553) in Los Banos’ 63-40 victory in 1999.

Centennial gained 682, including 503 on the ground; Mater Dei gained 621, including 256 on the ground.

Ryan Bass, the Centennial running back, carried 43 times for 329 yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Matt Scott carried 19 times for 186 and one score. He also completed 11 of 25 passes for 179 yards and one interception.

Mater Dei quarterback Matt Barkley completed 21 of 32 passes for 365 yards and two touchdowns. Robert Mojica carried 17 times for 133 yards and two touchdowns, and Jaron Hytche 21 for 126 and three scores. Robbie Boyer had nine receptions fro 186 yards and one touchdown.

Centennial reeled off 88 plays, Mater Dei 73.

‘I’ve never gone 88 plays on one team before, not even at USC,’ Kramer said, ‘and those games are longer.’
