Another big night for Morro Bay star QB Logan Budd, but it was his strong defensive play with the game on the line that allowed the Pirates, ranked No. 2 in the Southern Section‘s Northwest Division poll, to beat No. 5 Templeton, 27-23.

According to the San Luis Obispo Tribune, Budd fumbled the ball late in the game to give Templeton good field position. He quickly redeemed himself, however, with ‘a game saving tackle’ and a nail-in-the-coffin interception.

And, like usual, Budd was the offensive star for the Pirates, dwarfing his passing numbers by rushing for 179 yards and three TDs.

With the win, it looks like it’s a two-horse race for the Los Padres League title between Morro Bay and defending champ St. Joseph.

Here’s a photo courtesy of Truepreps.com of Budd in action, although I believe it was shot last year.
