Defending champion: El Dorado

How it shakes out: El Dorado (4-1) has the best defense in the league, one that some think is comparable to those of some of the Pac-5 teams, and the offense has come around, averaging 36 points the last three games.

A key challenge could come from Anaheim Canyon (5-0), which has been getting an emotional lift from John Boyd, their senior captain who was diagnosed with leukemia. El Modena (4-1) has the highest-scoring offense, but it’s hard to pick against El Dorado.
