Defending champion: First year of league (see below)
How it shakes out: Two games into league play, there are three unbeaten teams among the eight making up this first-year league. It will probably come down to Saddleback Valley Christian (5-0, 2-0) or Fairmont Prep (3-2, 2-0) when they play in the season finale on Nov. 9.

Editor Bob: The Times’ stats guru, Eric Maddy, notes that this is NOT the first year of the San Joaquin League. It played with an east/west divisional format last year, and Saddleabck Valley Christian won the league title, beating Bloomington Christian in a game between the divisional champions.
