Former Cal State Fullerton Coach George Horton has been inviting a number of Southland baseball prospects on recruiting trip to his new school, Oregon, hoping to sell them on becoming a Duck when the team begins play in 2009.

Considering Horton’s offer are two top pitchers, Mike Montgomery of Newhall Hart and Jonathan Pettibone of Anaheim Esperanza. Fullerton is also making a big push for Montgomery, with Pepperdine and USC going after the 6-foot-4 Pettibone.

Infielder Matt Akiyama of Torrance Bishop Montgomery has committed to Cal State Bakersfield, which will start play in NCAA Division I in 2009.

Left-handed pitcher Ryan Dejesus from Westlake Village Westlake has committed to San Francisco State.
