Some people still don’t realize a playoff berth may be on the line

Had a chance to catch up with former Valencia coach and current AD Brian Stiman before the start of the Saugus-Valencia game tonight. Incredibly, Stiman said he had no idea how talented each team is and was asking me and another reporter if this game was going to be any good.

I think he was joking a little because he knew who Saugus RB Ryan Zirbel was and I’m sure he’s seen Valencia play more than a couple times this season.

But if there’s anybody else out there in the blogosphere who’s not sure if this Santa Clarita showdown is worth any beans, let me tell you, emphatically, that it is.

In my book, whoever wins tonight’s game will be in the driver’s seat for the Foothill League’s final playoff berth. Sure, it’s entirely possible Valencia or Saugus could upset one of the big two (you know, Hart or Canyon) before the season is out. But this is probably the best opportunity for these teams to show they’re postseason worthy.

Kickoff here at College of the Canyons is coming right up.
