Los Altos running back Bryce Mahmud-McBride will likely miss the remainder of the season after breaking his tibia during the Conquerors’ 28-24 loss to Diamond Ranch on Thursday. He is expected to miss from four to six weeks.

Los Altos has three games left before the playoffs. It’s a tough break for a team that, before injuries started to pile up, looked like the class of the SGV.

This is the third major injury Los Altos has suffered in the last four weeks. Two weeks ago, Ray Rodriguez, regarded as the best TE and best defensive lineman in the area, broke his arm, and three weeks ago two-way starter Josh Contreras broke his leg. All three players are seniors.

Contreras is gone for the season, Rodriguez and BM-M are going to try to return for the playoffs, but there’s no guarantee.

When asked if he had ever gone through a season in which so many key players had been injured, Coach Greg Gano said, ‘No, never. This is devastating.’

Next up for Los Altos is Charter Oak, which ran past West Covina, 55-28, piling up 335 yards on the ground Friday. The Chargers have scored 105 points in their last two games.

‘Without Ray and Josh it’s really tough for us to stop the run,’ Gano said. ‘And without Bryce, we have no one that can create a big play. But we’ll see.’

We’ll see indeed.
