Friday’s scheduled contest between Fillmore and host Malibu could be played Saturday at Oak Park HS, if air quality does not improve. Nothing official has been decided, but westward-blowing smoke from the approaching Ranch and Buckweed fires has affected air quality in nearby Fillmore and even Malibu, as well.

“We have a [Frontier League] bylaw which says each team has to have at least two practices before they can play,” Fillmore Coach Matt Dollar said. “We might have school tomorrow, but the powers that be are making that decision right now.”

If Malibu or Fillmore cannot practice Wednesday, the game, according to league rules, must be pushed back to Saturday. Oak Park has also given the two respective schools the green light to play its junior varsity and freshman games at its campus.

“It’s a little better out here today than yesterday,” said Dollar, describing the air quality around Fillmore. “Unfortunately, it’s still burning and it’s hard to say if we can get [a practice] in tomorrow.”

The Sharks (3-4) are looking to end a two-game losing streak and Fillmore is coming off a 28-14 victory over Villanova Prep.
