City Section teams weren’t scheduled to practice today/Tuesday because coaches were attending mandatory faculty meetings after school. But because of the wildfires burning in parts of Southern California, a number of teams didn’t practice Monday either.

‘I’m definitely concerned because we play an afternoon game on Friday,’ Carson Coach Michael Christensen said. ‘If they have to cancel tomorrow’s practices because of safety well ... I assume we’ll know by Thursday if games are postponed, canceled or rescheduled.’

Said Monroe Coach Don Senegal: ‘We’re talking to the kids about things we cannot control, and this is something we cannot control. As far as we know, we’ll still play on Friday.’

City Section spokesperson John Aguirre said air quality will determine if teams can return to practice Wednesday. ‘If the teams can’t practice on Wednesday, that would be three days without practice and make it very diffcult to play the games,’ he said.

If games are canceled, Aguirre said, City Commisioner Barbara Fiege would decide if they are rescheduled.
