Representatives from the Marmonte League met earlier this afternoon to discuss exactly how to deal with the havoc that the Southern California wildfires have created for their football teams as they tried to practice this week for Friday‘s games.

A decision was reached to go ahead with the scheduled games as planned.

‘It really boils down to doing what’s best for the kids, safety is the No. 1 priority,’ said Simi Valley Coach Todd Borowski, whose team was forced to practice in the gym on Monday because of unfavorable conditions, missed a second full day of workouts Tuesday because the school was closed and was back in the gym today.

‘All of us coaches are in the same boat in terms of what we’ve been able to do or not do,’ he said. ‘While it would have been nice to do our normal routine this week, no one is really complaining. There’s some bigger things going on out there in the real world that aren’t necessarily football related.’’

If all goes according to plan, Borowski and the Pioneers (4-3, 2-2) will be back out on the field for practice Thursday in anticipation of Friday’s 7 p.m. showdown at first-place Newbury Park (7-0, 4-0), the lone Ventura County team with an undefeated record.
