City football games scheduled for Friday afternoon will go ahead as scheduled.

There was concern that the Southland fire situation, and its effect on outdoor practices this week, would have teams rescheduling games for Saturday or possibly Monday. But the games -- Garfield (6-1, 1-1) at Jordan (5-3, 4-0), Eagle Rock (7-0, 2-0) at Marshall (5-2, 2-0), Dorsey (4-3, 1-1) at Locke (1-6, 1-1), Carson (5-2, 2-0) at Washington (4-3, 1-1), and Verdugo Hills (4-4, 2-2) at Arleta (1-5, 1-2) -- will all kick off at 3 p.m.

Add to this list the Coliseum League game between Dorsey and host Locke, that was scheduled to be played today at 3 p.m. but has been moved to Friday at 3 p.m.

Garfield Coach Lorenzo Hernandez, for one, was pleased the game with Jordan was not changed or postponed, in part because the winner can, in all probability, claim the Eastern League championship.

‘Both [Jordan] Coach [Elijah] Asante and I agreed to do this on Friday,’ Hernandez said. ‘I think it’s easier when you have two teams like ours that continued week to week’ instead of one team coming back from a scheduled week off.
