Hobbling off the field, his foot already in a brace, Loyola RB Anthony Barr embodied the kind of night the Cubs had in their 26-9 loss to Notre Dame on Friday.

Loyola had spurts of greatness against the Knights, but every time it tried to get something done, a big Notre Dame hit or stupid penalty would batter the Cubs’ chances at victory.

‘This is a great team and we played real hard, but we just couldn’t keep it together,’ Barr said. ‘It’s just disappointing...we could have taken this one.’

Barr finished with 91 yards in 19 carries, but his final carry came on an eight-yard TD run late in the third quarter to make the score 14-9 ND. Unfortunately, he may have sprained his ankle on the play and he only played a couple more downs, blocking, before leaving the game for good early in the fourth quarter.

And that’s about the same time everything fell apart for the Cubs.

On the first play of the fourth, Crist connected with Jeff Dickmann on a 34-yard TD and, on the ensuing possession, ND’s Jordan Barrett returned an interception 26 yards for a TD to give the Knights a huge lead.

Hopefully, Barr’s ankle injury isn’t too serious and he’ll be back in Loyola’s lineup next week.
