Breathe in, breathe out

I arrived here at Millikan under a clear blue sky, and out of the car into cool, pleasantly crisp air.

I was ready for the Moore League game between the Rams and unbeaten Compton.

After several days of practices slowed to half-speed or sent indoors because of poor air quality caused by recent fires burning in several surrounding areas, the teams were ready, too.

Many games previously scheduled for Friday have been changed to Saturday, Monday or Tuesday, but Compton Coach Calvin Bryant is glad this encounter was not put off.

‘I feel great. It’s a beautiful night,’ he said, inhaling dramatically and taking a big whiff of the night air.

‘We’re ready to go,’ he said, flashing a smile before turning his attention to his team.
