Vista Murrieta was able to exhale after Chaparral quarterback Tyler Hansen dropped a two-point conversion attempt with 13 seconds left Tuesday night in the Southwestern League game, allowing the visiting Broncos to hold on for a 21-20 victory.

I’m not sure I’d call a halfback pass to my Colorado-bound quarterback with a league title on the line, but hey, if it works, Chaparral Coach Tommy Leach looks like Urban Meyer.

Vista Murrieta (8-0, 2-0) now has the most difficult part of its SWL schedule in the rearview mirror, at least opponent-wise. Since the game against Chaparral was delayed four days because of wildfires in the area, the Broncos must play three games in the last 11 days of the regular season.

‘It’s not so much playing in the games, but we lost a week of practice,’ Coach Coley Candaele said. ‘Those are the things that hurt you the most, getting out of that daily routine.’

And that includes moving this week’s Wacky Wednesday practice to Thursday.
