Why are so many high school football coaches running amuck, akin to Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona, allegedly?

The latest headline to grab my attention comes from Hoover High in Birmingham, Ala., where hard-nosed Coach Rush Propst, pictured left, who was featured for two years on MTV’s ‘Two-A-Days’ reality show, should be cookin’ like a crawdad in a bucket o’ hot water ‘bout now. Instead, he’s getting off pretty easy.

He resigned from his coaching position Tuesday, but, oh yeah, he can finish out the season. He also gets paid through Aug. 31, when he’ll probably just find another job in a different district.

Throw in the recent high school football scandals in Stockton and Fort Myers, Fla., and the sport is beginning to feel as slimy as, well, high school basketball.
