A few more things around Orange County that were worth watching over the weekend:

  • Nick Crissman of Edison completed 16 of 26 passes for 206 yard and two touchdowns in its 22-13 victory over rival Fountain Valley in the Battle for the Bell. Edison is in a three-way tie for first place in the Sunset League, and plays another first-place team, Newport Harbor, on Thursday.
  • Radames Gutierrez completed eight of 10 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns for Estancia in its 41-13 Orange Coast League victory over Costa Mesa. Is there any rivalry game on the coast that doesn’t have a perpetual “Bell” trophy?
  • Tyler Ortiz of Garden Grove Pacifica scored on a run, a reception and an interception in a 27-14 Empire League victory over La Palma Kennedy. If multi-purpose tools were football players, that’s how they would perform.
  • Steven Marquez of Westminster rushed eight times for 130 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-6 victory over Ocean View. Second-place Santa Ana awaits Westminster, which clinched a share of its fourth consecutive Golden West League title.
  • Michael Camacho scored three touchdowns for Foothill in its 34-33 Sea View League victory over El Toro. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good, as El Toro’s field attempt with 16 seconds remaining veered left.
  • D.J. Esquivel of Sonora passed for three scores and ran for another in a 38-13 Freeway League victory over Sunny Hills. It’s a good year to be named D.J., just ask Shoemate and Crumlich.
  • Ray Holley of El Modena rushed for 261 yards and three touchdowns in a 33-13 Century League victory over Villa Park. His 28 touchdowns broke a school record that had stood since 1986.
  • Reece Ludwig of Laguna Hills rushed for three touchdowns in a 41-3 Pacific Coast League victory over Beckman. That was one more score than he had in seven previous games.
  • Harold Williiams of Tesoro rushed for three touchdowns in a 35-0 victory over Dana Hills. The Titans’ defining moment approaches: A game against host Mission Viejo on Friday to determine the South Coast League champion.
  • San Clemente’s defense delivered eight sacks and held Aliso Niguel to 16 yards rushing in a 35-0 South Coast League victory. Anyone else get the feeling that the Tritons might be peaking at the right time?
