Lawrence Phillips, one of the greatest high school and college football players ever, is in trouble again. This is nothing new for the former Baldwin Park High and Nebraska great, and St. Louis Rams bust.

Phillips, pictured right, will appear before the state Supreme Court on Nov. 14 to appeal the sentencing from an incident on Aug. 21, 2005, when he attempted to run over three minors with a stolen car. He is facing 20 years in prison if his appeal is denied, plus he still has to stand trial in San Diego on auto theft charges.

As much as I remember Nebraska’s 1996 Fiesta Bowl victory against Florida, I also remember all the negative stories that followed Phillips, 31, after that game.

The San Gabriel Valley Tribune documents Phillips’ rise and fall here.
