The score doesn’t necessarily reflect it, but Mater Dei is beating Servite in every aspect of the game. The M onarchs headed in the locker room (or is it the clubhouse?) holding a 14-0 lead.

Servite isn’t out of the game, but unless it develops an offense during halftime, that comeback will not happen.

The Monarchs are confident. Quarterback Matt Barkley, who threw for a touchdown and ran for another, led the team off the field waving his arms and cupping his hands near his helmet’s ear holes, as if to say ‘I can’t hear you.’ Wide receiver Cristian Maldonado was urging the crowd to get louder and another player was blowing kisses to the fans.

Could one of those kisses have been the kiss of death? We’ll find out. The second half is about to start.
