The worst-case scenario has happened for the Pac-5 Division.

The Trinity League held its coin flips Saturday morning to break a three-way tie, and Servite came out as the luckiest of all, earning the No. 1 berth, followed by Orange Lutheran at No. 2 and Mater Dei at No. 3.

Servite Coach Troy Thomas gave me the news and was happy. Good luck to the Southern Section committee entrusted with figuring out a fair 16-team draw.

Add the fact that Sherman Oaks Notre Dame might not have quarterback Dayne Crist (concussion) available for the opening round of the playoffs, and it’s even more confusing. Encino Crespi’s 23-3 win over Notre Dame puts the Celts in position to be a definite title threat.

Pairings will be released on Sunday. Sleep well everyone and start filling out your own playoff draws.
