As far as I’m concerned, I think the teams from the San Fernando Valley/North region got a fair deal in the playoff seedings released by the Southern Section. Still, there’s going be some pretty tough matchups for certain ‘favored’ teams.

In the Northern Division, the only really tough contest for a league champion will be Oxnard‘s game against Valencia. Even though Valencia finished third in the Foothill League, it’s one of the top teams in Southern California and I’d be surprised if the Pacific View League champion Yellowjackets can survive this one.

The Northwest Division looks pretty fair, but Oaks Christian will have a tough opener against San Dimas, one of the favorites for the division title.

The somewhat unfavorable draw comes as a result of the Lions’ loss to Oak Park, but I think it would have made more sense if Oaks Christian was playing Torrance and Harvard-Westlake was playing San Dimas, instead. After all, the Lions are co-champs of the Tri-Valley League.
