Football is a dangerous game, even on the sidelines. Nobody can attest to that more than Palm Springs Coach Steve Fabian, who was taken out during a sideline tackle Friday night against Cathedral City, causing mulitiple fractures in his right knee.

The game had to be delayed 30 minutes as Fabian laid on the turf waiting for an ambulance. He underwent reconstructive knee surgery on Monday and will miss, at the minimum, Friday’s first-round Eastern Division playoff game at Silverado.

Fabian, 54, is in his ninth season coaching the Indians. Dan Murphy, the offensive line coach for Palm Springs, will serve as interim head coach.
